Solan

Solan is one of the 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh and it is named after the gratifying town of Solan. Solan is situated midway between Kalka and Shimla. Solan is perched at an elevation of 1,465 mts. above sea level offering scenic vistas of nature. Solan name is inspired from Goddess Shoolini, Solan is also popularly known as mushroom city of India.

Mohan Meakin's brewery is the oldest brewery of India situated in Solan which was established in 1855. The average literacy rate of Solan is 82% which is way higher than the literacy rate of India. Solan is well connected with motorable roads and railway networks. Popular places of Himachal like Shimla and Kasauli are a few hours drive from Solan.

Mini Zoo
There is a Children’s Park in Solan which also inhabits a mini zoo. There are deers, wild cats, various kinds of birds and some other animals in the mini zoo. This place is an ideal spot for picnicking with your children. Don’t feed the animals.

Karol Caves
It is the ancient and longest cave of the mighty Himalayas. This site is situated just 5kms from Solan with the caves having its end at Pinjor Gardens. Karol caves are situated at an elevation of 7000ft above sea level.

Gurkha Fort
Gurkha Fort was built by the Gurkhas nearly 300years ago. This Fort is situated on Dhar Mountain at an elevation of 7100ft above sea level offering awe inspiring views of Shimla one one side and Kasauli on another.

Young Drum Monastery
Situated 15kms from Solan, Young Drum Monastery teaches the oldest religion of Tibet 'Ban'.

Barog
Situated 7kms away from Solan, Barog is a small village famous for pine trees and longest tunnel in Kalka-Shimla Railway line. Barog is situated at an elevation of 1680mts above sea level and this site is progressively developing into a popular town.

Chail
Chail is an ultimate tourist destination surrounded by pine and deodar forests. This site was summer capital of the Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala. Chail overlooks the gorgeous Satluj Valley. Shimla and Kasauli are also perceptible from Chail with an illusionary vision of twinkling lights. Chail also inhabits the highest cricket and polo ground of the world situated at 2,426mts above sea level. Chail is situated 43kms from Solan.

Kasauli
Kasauli reminds one of the colonial times because of its cobbled roads, English architecture and gabled houses. Strolling down the lanes and bylanes of Kasauli, you would be fascinated by the sweet chirping of the birds, long rows of rhododendron, pine, Himalayan oak and chestnut trees. It is famous for Pasteur Institute, old Gurkha Fort, and Monkey Point, the highest point of Kasauli. Sanavar
Sanawar is famous for its 150 year old boarding school, the Lawrence school. It is just 6kms from Kasauli and it is almost hundred years old. Sanavar is situated 23kms from Solan.

Sabathu
Sabathu is a cantonment town situated at an altitude of 1,437 mts. It houses a Gurkha fort built in the early 19th century. Sabathu is situated 31kms from Solan.

Dagshai
Dagshai is situated 15 kms from Solan at an altitude of 1,925 mts above sea level. It consists of a military public school and several military barracks.

Parwanoo
It is situated 39kms before Solan at an elevation of 5000ft above sea level. Parwanoo acts as the industrial town of Himachal Pradesh with more than 80% of locals working in industrial sector. Parwanoo is located on the foothills of Shivalik Range connected with NH22.

Shimla
